This pandemic has been nothing but wild.

I was fine at the beginning of Spring Break thinking I was going to be back in Gettysburg in a week. I had been attentive to the news as to the updates of the virus but never ever imagined it would get like this: to postpone commencement and make classes virtual for the remainder of the semester.

The moment the campus announced that all students needed to move out, I was quickly in shock because it meant I had to grab all my items and end my senior year practically because it obviously was not going to be the same at home.

I do feel blessed enough to have a stable home and live under a stable roof with food and the necessities needed to finish the semester. My heart went out to those that were going home to unstable spaces and not being to have their own area in their own home becuase I have been in the spot before. I just hope all those students are doing the best they can, and will make it through this semester.

I want everyone to be safe and strive to do their great work even under these crazy circumstances. It is WAY easier to get distracted from work and even easier to just not attempt to do it. But we just got to self-discipline ourselves more than ever, I have been doing it with myself.

Throughout this last adjustment and keeping up with the news, the young people that are not really talked about are those students of color that are being affected on another level due to now being exposed to uncertainties at home that they were not worried about while being on their campuses. Now there is another level of stress on top of the school work to finish the semester. Colleges should be reaching out to those students of color and first-generation students as they, for the most part, do not have the same resources or study space at home.
