I think one way young people are impacted that we aren’t addressing is through isolation. Yes we may be saving lives from getting sick and dying, keeping them safe and clean but we are also trapping them with their unkind thoughts, causing them to think irrationally and maybe even harm themselves.
Most people like to keep busy whether it be doing something around the house or going outside and going on a walk, but with the outside world being basically off limits there is only so much we can do until our thoughts overcome us. Being home can be cool but when we are forced to be inside it’s another thing.
I think we should come together and somehow find a way to help others learn how to cope with all these feelings and thoughts. Being left alone, all by yourself at home after a certain amount of time is the biggest issue with everyone. Coping is very different with everyone, sometimes we need someone’s presence, or a hug or a kiss etc. but with this whole pandemic we can’t really do much of that.
Mental illness is an overall big issue even before Covid-19 was a problem but isolation has become an even bigger problem as well. With everyone being kept inside there’s just more opportunities and chances a person with mental illnesses can take to act out on their suicidal thoughts. I think there should be an online chat room or just some sort of app or something that the government can do so that people who tend to suffer from mental illnesses aren’t alone. Being isolated isn’t fun, there’s a difference when you isolate yourself and when you are forced to be isolated.
Sometimes self-isolation is very well needed, but not for too long. Horrible thoughts can overcome us and make us think irrationally and want to harm ourselves, being isolated can also drive people to insanity.
Young adults in hospitals and rehabs and any other mental facilities are suffering majorly too. Not being able to go out on their daily outings or being able to have their family/friends visit is taking a toll on them as well. It’s almost like they have no one to talk to, no one to turn too and when you have no choice but to be stuck inside…I can only imagine how they are feeling, yes they may have resources inside the facility but what about the fresh air?
Being able to just sit outside, go on a stroll, meet up with friends, go to the mall, eat at restaurants etc. Sometimes we just need to listen to nature, breath in the fresh air, go on a walk/hike, planting, watering the plants or even raking leafs and picking up trash. Anything that we can do to distract ourselves and although I’m not saying we can’t do anything to distract ourselves inside it’s just the fact that there is only so much we can do inside, being in the same setting all the time can get to us as well. We need a change of scenery sometimes, just to be at peace for a little while.
We want our freedom back. Isolation is the issue I think that us young people are having right now with the whole COVID-19 pandemic.
