TWy greaves

Twy first began her work in social organizing as a youth leader with one of Perrin’s grantee partners Hearing Youth Voices. Her initiative and leadership skills as a volunteer with the organization got her on the Hearing Youth Voices Leadership Team in 2015, where she was granted official youth leadership status. As a youth leader Twy gained access to more leadership opportunities in the community .

Among the leadership opportunities offered to her was the chance to represent Hearing Youth Voices as a part Perrin’s 2017 BLOC cohort where she participated in monthly intensive trainings on how to design and lead issue-based social justice campaigns. During this time she also explored shared organizing experiences with other youth leaders statewide. Her community involvement ultimately lead to greater collaborations with Perrin and our partners.

Currently, Twy is pursuing higher education at Eastern Connecticut State University where she is studying communications with special focuses in political science and sociology. An advocate for the importance of storytelling and shared experience, Twy is dedicated to staying rooted in the reality of her own lived experiences. Having graduated from the Marine Science Magnet High School in 2017, she hopes to use her passion for oceanography and her background knowledge in civil rights and food justice to raise awareness of the underlying intersectionalities between environmental science and social justice. While working with the ideology of holding youth education at the center of all social work, Twy uplifts her experiences as a young black leader to empower other youth across Connecticut.
